The short answer
For most Canadian small business accounts, start with 7–9am, 12–1pm and 7–9pm local time, Tuesday through Friday. Those windows line up with commuting, taking a lunch break and winding down at home. If you post once a day, try the morning window first.
Why timing matters less than you think
Instagram's feed isn't chronological anymore. A post that earns saves and shares in its first hour gets shown for days; a post nobody touches dies quietly at any hour. Timing affects the first round of views. Once you have a reasonable window, spend the rest of your time making the post worth saving or sharing.
Defaults by business type
Cafes and restaurants: post before people decide where to eat — 7–8am for brunch and coffee, 4–5pm for dinner plans. Salons, spas and clinics: lunch and evenings, when people book personal appointments. Realtors: evenings and Saturday mornings, when buyers browse. Trades and B2B services: weekday mornings, when owners and managers are in work mode.
Does time zone matter across Canada?
Post in your customers' local time and ignore the rest of the country. A Vancouver salon's audience lives in Pacific time; a national account should start with Eastern time, where roughly half of Canadians live, while western audiences see the post later.
How to find your actual best time
Check Instagram's insights to see when your followers are most active, then post 30–60 minutes before that peak. Test one window for two weeks before judging it — single-post results are noise.
Why consistency matters more than timing
A good post still matters more than the exact minute it goes up. Posting three times a week, every week, also gives people more chances to see your work. Our guide on how often a business should post can help you choose a schedule you can maintain. Instagram rewards consistent posting, but most owners struggle to keep it up when making content is another job.
